This week's round-up is a short one as I have been on leave. Unfortunately, I haven't been on the holiday as I would have liked, instead I needed to go into hospital for some surgery. Taking time off when you work for yourself can be tricky to manage. Knowing I was going to be off this week meant I needed to get projects out of the door before going on leave at the end of last week. A bit of planning is required, plus I am fortunate to have flexible and understanding clients!
I will be back on deck next week–at least in some capacity–new jobs booked in include a nice infographic job, some web landing page designs for a marketing campaign in the UK and some corporate stationery.
Fresh print: I have recently been designing a printed strategic plan for QuIHN, a not for profit, non-government organisation providing health services to illicit drug users throughout Queensland. The central theme for the design was a set of four core priority 'diamonds' each using a texture to represent the diverse areas of Queensland they operate in, from the city to the coast to rural and remote areas. Bold colours and clean design were used to give a positive and professional feel.
Reading/Watching/Listening: With the recent release of Shane Meadow's latest instalment of the super powerful and smart 'This in England' ('90), I have binge-watching reruns of previous series ('86, '88). The soundtracks are always fantastic so, inspired by this, the music this week has been coming from Ludovico Einaudi, Jimmy Cliff, The Jam, Toots & The Maytals...lots of reggae, ska and soul.
Recuperating has also meant the chance to catch up on some reading. Having just finished 'Rough Ride' by Paul Kimmage, a candid and honest book about his experience as a pro-cyclist, I have just started reading 'This is a Call - The Life and Times of Dave Grohl'. I have also been catching up on Issue 11 of Offscreen Magazine. What else? ... I haven't seen it yet but his new documentary Design Disruptors looks interesting.
Have a great weekend.
