It has been very much a production—and productive—week with a lot of smaller jobs going out the door. There has been a backlog to get through so it's been great to make some headway. Jobs have included some large scale display banners, the ongoing design of an A2 foldout Strategic Plan (shaping up nicely), finalising an infographic piece and the updating of a number of PDF publications. The way should be clearer to get stuck into a couple of larger, more creative, jobs next week.
I started back in college this week after a few weeks off. Time is flying, again. We are very quickly approaching the end of trimester so the guys are working towards their final portfolio hand in. A stressful, but rewarding time. We have some great ideas happening though so now we really need to knuckle down, commit and see them through.
Reading this week:
Relentlessly chasing profits is the enemy of creative businesses—Excellent article about how increasingly independent designers are thriving outside of the fast moving fashion houses. Free of the never ending cycle of collections. Keeping it small and growing slowly.
Newsletters are no longer important. They are vital—a great set of tips by David Hieatt about harnessing the tried and trusted power of newsletters, particularly given that they have fallen out of favour with the rise of social media. (Must revisit my newsletter).
Listening to this week:
Monocle run some great online radio programs—a big favourite of mine is The Big Interview. Check out this interview with Thomas Heatherwick, the amazingly diverse designer, hailed by many, as the UK's best. Other episodes include John Hegarty, Milton Glaser and Erik Spiekermann.
This week's tunes include Aphex Twin, Biosphere, Transphere, Darkstar, Turin Brakes, City & Colour and The Black Dog.
Have a great weekend.
